Hope Community Church--An Evangelical Free Church
Giving, Growing and Celebrating our Hope in Christ
Bringing life-changing hope to our community
About HCC

Hope Community Church exists to share with others the life changing hope that comes through faith in Jesus Christ, build one another up in that hope and joyfully celebrate our hope in Christ each week in worship.

Hope Community Church began in 1992 with a home Bible study and a vision of reaching out to the greater West Salem community with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.  We were incorporated as an Evangelical Free Church in 1994. The church has grown since then and has met in a variety of locations in West Salem. We now own the “old Presbyterian Church” at 134 E. Hamilton across from the fire house. We are currently meeting at 1580 Heritage Blvd.

Pastor Mark Gilbert and his wife, Julie, came to Hope in 2006 after shepherding an Evangelical Free Church in Milwaukee for more than 20 years.  We are grateful for those who had the original vision of starting an evangelical church in West Salem. We hope to see that vision bear much fruit in the years ahead.

New To Hope

I’m New so I Have Some Questions…

What should I wear to church?

We invite you come to Hope just as YOU are. You’ll see mostly casual dress, but there are some button up shirts and ties. Just wear what makes you the most comfortable.

What should I bring?

If you have a bible at home, bring it along! That way, you can take notes or underline things right in your own bible for later reference. If you don’t have a bible, there are plenty available in the seats for you to use or take home as a gift!

Will I stand out in the crowd as a new person or be asked to do anything weird?

We promise not to embarrass you. We do have a time when we get us and greet each other, but you won’t be asked to stand up an introduce yourself.

Is there a Children’s Ministry?

Children’s Church is available for kids ages 4-8. Children will be dismissed together from the corporate Worship Service and have their own time of Bible Study. At the end of the service, you head back to get your child/ren.

We also have a fully staffed Nursery available for babies and children 3 years and under.

What does the service look like?

Hope Church strives to preach the Word. Our worship style is a blend of contemporary and traditional. Our service always begins with musical worship followed by a teaching from God’s Word with relevant application to your daily life. The worship service lasts about an hour.

After service, we invite you to head to the Fellowship Room for refreshments. This is a great way to get to know other people at Hope.

What makes Hope Community Church different?

We are a church committed to giving hope to others through faith in Jesus Christ, growing in our hope together and celebrating our hope in meaningful worship each week. If you are looking for a church home where the word of God is clearly preached, where you can find new friends, grow in your faith, use your gifts and abilities to serve God, we would encourage you to take a closer look at Hope Community Church.
